Orca Updates 10/24/26

Welcome to Saturday and the last week of October, Orca Learning Community!

In case you missed it, we ended the week with a celebration at our Orca Family Friday Assembly where we recognized as one of the Washington's Schools on the Rise from the Association of Washington School Principals and Association of Washington School Leaders. This celebrates the gains we have made in attendance, student leadership, parent engagement, and sense of belonging over the past year- especially as we have transitioned to our Interim Campus! It is something for our entire Orca Learning Community- students, staff, families, and community partners- to be proud of! Our Student Leaders helped accept the award and shared what is means to be a leader at their school with their AJ peers. Keep an eye out to see that new banner hanging at the front of our campus soon!

We are heading into a FUN fall week! On Thursday students are welcome to come to school in costume but no masks or weapons are allowed (and please be mindful of our K-5 learners and refrain from sending students in costumes that may be too scary or contain gore). That night, we will have our Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat! Our PTO will be hosting this annual event on Thursday, 6-8pm.

And a reminder that we have NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, October 30th. Teaching staff will be spending time in professional development (along with some time preparing for our upcoming Fall Conferences).

Student-Led Conferences are the weeks of November 2-6, please reach out directly to your student's teacher if you have not received a confirmation of your conference time. Our goal is to have a conference with 100% of our families!

Upcoming dates to remember:

October 29: Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat

October 30: NO SCHOOL

November 5-6: Conference days, NO SCHOOL

November 11: Veteran's Day NO SCHOOL

November 26-27: Thanksgiving Break, NO SCHOOL

🚦Traffic Safety

When entering our parking lot for arrival and dismissal, cars should not turn directly down Spruce Ave (behind Saar's) but should continue straight up Sheridan Rd to Cherry Ave. Cherry Ave is our arrival/dismissal "queue," having cars enter from Spruce creates multi-directional traffic and unsafe crossing conditions for our families.

Costume Policy

On Thursday, October 29th, students will be allowed to wear costumes to school. Please ensure that your child's costume is suitable for elementary school ages. Costumes should not be frightening, gory, or overly mature for elementary (kindergarten-5th grade) school children. NO MASKS may be worn during the school day. That night, we will have our Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat event, 6-8pm.

Dress for the Weather

As the weather gets cooler and wetter, please send your student to school in closed-toe shoes, such as sneakers or boots, instead of sandals. These help students play safely and comfortably during recess and PE. If your student needs shoes, please contact your teacher or our office - we have shoes available on campus and are happy to help!

Call for Veteran's day Photos

During our Friday morning assembly on 11/13, we would like to honor all of the Veterans connected to our community through a slideshow. Please submit the following information: student’s name; Veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, and years served; and a picture of your Veteran via the QR code below. You can also email your information to emily.craig@bremertonschools.org by Thursday, 11/5.
